I’d like to make an official announcement that October 4th will from here on in be known as Bellowhead Day. I have the great privilege of seeing them tonight and am really looking forward to it. Anyway as Jon says, “It’s here at last! Seems a long time since we were in Abbey Road. Really looking forward to gigging all the new stuff. Roll on November!” There’s a nice little bonus for you too to mark the occasion. Anyway it’s interesting to hear this as naked as our hapless victim the morning after. Also this Mudcat thread make s the very interesting link with the version in the film The Gangs Of New York that is the one Jon follows.
You can buy the October digital album now from all good download stores:
Bellowhead – New York Girls
The new Bellowhead album Hedonism is available to buy now.
Both brilliant versions. Thank you, Jon. (Love the punchline! I’m up early!)
Happy Bellowhead day everyone – this song has been stuck in my head all night (which may be one reason I didn’t sleep) and I have a feeling it will be there all day, and probably tonight too!
Bellowhead Day ought to be a national holiday! Loved the song – heard it twice -both times at Shrewsbury, so it’s off to Bilston in November. Thank you Jon for all these songs – love them all.
I hope I can put my hands on it soon.
Navigator don’t make me wait too much!
I wonder who sets the media prices. Hedonism CD, Deluxe CD+DVD, and LP cost £9, £12, and £13 respectively at Navigator, £9, £12, and £11 at Amazon UK, but £11, £27, and unbelievable £40 at Amazon Germany!
Nigel – looks like the file is either corrupt or not there. Any possibility Admin could re-upload it or something? 🙂
not sure which I’m looking forward to more – Hedonism coming through my letterbox tomorrow [hopefully] or seeing BH live again next month.
Lots of videos available if you click the bottom of the screen – including for some reason ‘Complete History Of The Soviet Union, Arranged To The Melody Of Tetris’ – and if you watch that it then takes you to some strangely Hitler fixated stuff; be warned.
I like having the full-blown and bare bones version side by side, as it were. It’s a nice way to illustrate that a song doesn’t always have to be sung the same way every time.
For yet another take, folks might like to have a listen to the Steeleye Span version from “Commoner’s Crown” featuring Peter Sellers on ukelele and vocal interjections.
[…] he released two version of “New York Girls”. One if a more traditional, slower version. The second one is jazzed up and accompanied by a great […]
>“it’s interesting to hear this as naked as our hapless victim the morning after”
I really do hope this is a reference to Jon’s stripped-down rendition of the song, and not to events following the Hedonism launch party? 🙂
Anyway I’ve been enjoying listening to the CD tonight; looking forward to seeing the band perform live in Birkenhead next month.
Matthew
My copy of Hedonism had just plopped onto my doormat and am loving it! Think this track is my favourite so far though it’s up against some pretty stiff competition.
I’ve posted my review on Properganda Online and will be adding some photos from Monday’s event today, as a car break in stopped the two being together as they should have been. Look out for my interview with Jon as well coming soon.
Is there a reason Hedonism isn’t available from Amazon.com MP3? The older albums seem to be. I’m leery about buying it from iTunes, I’d much rather have MP3 files without copy protection.
Is it just me whose brain tries to make me sing “My dear aunty” ?
Happy Bellowhead day 2011. Looking forward to November concert, Sounds very similar to last years comments.
A great bawdy song this, but certainly better with a good crowd with you roaring out the chorus. Thank you for the bonus of the Bellowhead version which gets my vote
Kate Akers, who sometimes contributes here, has just uploaded a version of this song to YouTube performed by herself and father, Andy Fincham:
A wonderful song – enjoyed both versions. Just wondering where I was this time last year – I believe I was new to AFSAD and a bit shy (if you can imagine that). Surprising what the difference a year makes isn’t it? Happy Bellowhead Day to all.

Bellowhead day this year tinged with a sad note after the passing of the lovely talented Paul Sartin.
A wonderful, funny and joyful song for Bellowhead Day. One I’m sure Paul Sartin must have enjoyed, and fittingly fun to remember him by. A sad, too-early loss.
Since it is Bellowhead Day, it is only kind to forgive Dunderhead YoungMuzza his Fincham familial gaff, albeit somewhat belaTedly. Hahahaha!
Thank you Janey….
sorry Kate and Andy….dunno how I came to the incorrect conclusion (doh) …clarified by Kate 9 comments up!
Don’t need reminding of my gaffe thank you…sigh!
The Bellowhead version doesn’t play now, but perhaps this will serve:
